Some people keeps talking about medal collecting or hub world being bad in the game. the 360 ver wasn't perfect either but it was solid most of the time.

+ some frame-rate issues with the PS3 ver. The only thing dragging the game down was the werehog and that was Mediocre not bad. I would anticipate a new Sonic Unleashed more than your annual Yakuza any day! + new mechanics that worked extremely well for sonic Shadow is also sort of the epitome of a lot of stuff that was a guilty pleasure for me about that era of Sonic (buttrock soundtrack, dumb edgy story, etc.) whereas Unleashed is the start of the era of Sonic where the games feel like they're part of a psuedo-Saturday morning cartoon that's kinda self aware but not in a clever way.īlack Knight is almost assuredly a worse game than Unleashed but I think I had more fun playing it, if only because most of it is kinda easy and it's just something you can kinda breeze through in a relatively quick timespan. Meanwhile you have to play through every tedious Werehog stage to see the end of Unleashed.

The morality system led to levels being tedious if you don't take the neutral path, but I never felt like I had to see every ending to get my fill of the game. Unleashed has more polish but Shadow at least has you controlling a character who's fun to play as for the entire game. I legitimately think Shadow is a better game than Unleashed. The flaws run too deep for some to overlook I consider myself fairly forgiving and patient when it comes to Sonic games, which is how I ended up adoring it. Maybe it didn't deserve lower scores than 2006, but I can see why people were underwhelmed with the final product. I feel like Unleashed is a game made with a lot of love, but not nearly as much confidence in its success.

Plus there are the DLC adventure packs which boast challenge levels and harder variants, so there's a lot of content for veteran players to come back to here, something that isn't as easily said for other Sonic games.

And the day stages are exhilarating and some of the most satisfying in the entire series to master.

While the werehog gameplay is kinda terrible starting out, once you gain more combos and increase your power to quickly take out enemies, it actually gets pretty fun - and I enjoy the actual platforming it provides, too. The werehog was a largely unwelcome gimmick after Sega promised a return to form after 2006 (which in turn was also a promised return to form after Heroes and ShTH), the daytime gameplay has an unusually high skill floor compared to most Sonic games, and gating off story progression with medal collection is infuriating, especially once you reach Adabat.īut with all of that said, I really do love this game, warts and all. Unleashed is my favorite 3D Sonic game next to SA1 (and SRB2, tbh), but I never hold it against anyone who dislikes it.
